Should I get a disk with images of a wedding album?

Creative Elegance – Should I get a disk with images of a wedding album??

Hey guys, Mark Brittain here again for Creative Elegance with another question that I get asked all the time. Should I get a disk with the photos or should I get a Wedding Album??

In the Digital Age we live in there are a lot of Brides & Grooms out there that just want a Disk with the photos on it. Now I know from experience that most of these people who just get the “Disk” have good intentions but will probably not make a Wedding Album, or get photos printed onto Canvas and hung on their wall. So for the Ease and Convenience of having the Photographer or the Studio create and manufacture your Wedding Album & or Canvas is a benefit but at the cost of the Studio.

Price is a massive factor I have found. In the beginning there is the full cost of the wedding and the Album/canvas get pushed to the side. Sometimes never to resurface. There are some photographers, like myself that offer a range of different Albums to cater for almost every budget starting from $599 and going to $3999.

Quality is paramount. When choosing which company is going to manufacture your wedding album they must have quality in mind. The public are very limited in companies that design and manufacture wedding albums given that some only work with Studios that have a registered ABN. Companies like SnapFish or Momento are commonly used but the public. Where as Albums Australia or Photo Mounts & Albums work with only Photography Studios.

All of the photos that go into a Creative Elegance Wedding Album are fully edited. When you have the Photographer or Studio creates the Album this Extra Editing is available, if you just have a disk and make your own album, then it isn’t.

Having just the disk is nice in the way you can put the photos on your computer, laptop or phone and show all your friends or family but is it as nice as showing your Wedding Album? Or a Mini Album/Brag Book? Wouldn’t you like your wedding photos to look the best that they can??

Questions to ask a Wedding Photographer Before Booking.

Creative Elegance – What questions should I ask my Wedding Photographer before booking??

Ok, well I’m back with another question that I beg clients to ask!! What questions should I ask my perspective Wedding Photographer?? So below your will find the top 6 questions!!

Can I have just a disk of my wedding photos? This question is extremely relevant now days as a lot of B&G’s are on a budget and just want the disk. Now I have covered the Pro’s and Con’s between a Disk and an Album on another post so we wont go into that today but there are some photographers that will just give you the disk included, and there are some that wont… Some photographers charge extra for the disk saying that the price for your wedding photography is just to get them to shoot your wedding, then you have to buy the disk.. Some resize all the photos on the disk so you can’t get enlargements printed by yourself, you have to go through the photographer/studio.. Some photographers watermark their LOGO on all of the photos. This isa extremely important question, you need to know what your paying for and what your going to get.

Coverage is another topic. When is the photographer going to start and finish shooting my wedding?? Some photographers say that they will start 1 hr before your wedding and finish 1 hr into the reception. Others, like Creative Elegance have a start and stop time, so you know exactly how much of your wedding will be covered.

Ask if the Photographer/Studio has set “Packages.” Most photographers I know have set “Packages.” They are predetermined packages that have items in them. A lot of the time these packages aren’t really exactly what you want. It has a Canvas in the package but I like Framed Prints. It has 50 prints in the package but we wont use them.. Others like Creative Elegance don’t have any Set Packages at all, you custom choose what you want in your wedding package and get a discount the more you want and you are only getting what you really want.

What Fee’s are involved? Some photographers have Travel Fees, Editing Fees, Late Fees. Some of the Fees photographers have are ridiculous. You look at them and go, “Really??? Are you serious?? Others have none, none at all. A must ask question!!

Who owns the Copyright on the photos? Ok so this is a big one. When the photographer takes your wedding photos, the photographer owns those photos. They are working for the B&G but they own the photos. They then put those photos onto a disk which is then copyrighted. Technically you cannot make a duplicate copy of that disk as you (the B&G) do not own the photos. Unless the photographer gives you a copyright free disk then you can do as you will.

An lastly, but most importantly “What equipment do you use??” you would expect a Professional Photographer to use Professional Equipment wouldn’t you??? Ye you would but in some cases they use basic DSLR equipment. There is no advantage in having this photographer shoot your wedding over a Friend of a Friend. Most Professional Equipment has Dual Card slots at the very least. This means that when shooting a wedding the photos are saved to not just 1 card but 2 at the same time. So if you have a card fail and loose the date (YOUR WDDDING) you have a backup. Not to mention that Professional Equipment is better build, faster, most of the time has more Megapixels too. To add to this, ask “What is your Backup Equipment?” do they have 1 awesome camera and 1 budget camera or do they have 2-3 Professional Camera DSLR Bodies??

Where to shoot wedding photos on Bribie Island.

Hi again guys, it’s Mark from Creative Elegance. Living on Bribie Island for over 25 yrs has allowed me to come to know some pretty special and amazing spots for have your Formal Photos of your wedding taken. So with that, below are a few different spots, in and around Bribie Island for your photos.

Woorim Surf Beach — Woorim has a magnificent coast line with miles and miles of sandy beaches. The whole way along the Surf Beach on Bribie there is access by normal car. If you wanted to get adventurous you could go up to the tip of Bribie, looking over at Caloundra. I myself go to the Lookout on Boyd St, Great location, easy access, plenty of parking and not too busy.

Bongaree Jetty — The Jetty at Bongaree, the calm side of Bribie, overlooks the Bribie Passage (Pumistone Passage) on any given day you might see Dolphins, Dugongs, Sail Boats, Speed Boats, Jet Ski’s Charter Boats. This location is the most popular for all the Tourists with plenty of great restaurants and cafes. The Jetty itself has 2 pontoons where people fish every day. The backdrop of the Jetty is Redcliffe in the distance or the Bribie Bridge and Sandstone Point. It has been used extremely often when shooting on Bribie over the years.
Pirate Park — Along the Calm side on the Island (Sharp left over the Bridge) about 3km down is a park called Pirate Park. There is a park that has play equipment in the shape of a Pirate Ship (hence the name… lol) next to the park is a large grassy area that has a backdrop of the Glasshouse Mountains. Fantastic looking sunset shots have been taken here, and on clear days the Mountains look spectacular.
White Patch — White Patch is a suburb of Bribie Island. As you come over the Bridge towards the 2nd roundabout head Left and you will come to it. It has an coast line of approx 1km with easy access by car. it has a dark and gloomy feel but once on the sand the backdrop of the Glasshouse Mountains is unbelievable. They are right there!!! The sand is a dark color and with the lush greens in the trees and the Blues in the water with the mountains in the background, well… a photographer couldn’t ask for more!!!
Well I have listed a few different locations that I have shot around Bribie Island, go and check them out!!!

How many People should I have at my Wedding?

So I get asked all the time “How many people should I have at my wedding?” When chatting with a couple very quickly they realise that that more people you have at the wedding, the more people you have to go and see/thank for coming. Which in turn means the less time you have to spend with everyone?
Some Venues have a certain Minimum or Maximum for the Reception. To make sure they have enough room for all your guests is very important. Then there is the catering for all you guests as well. In some cases I have seen people been invited to the Ceremony of the Wedding and not be invited to the Reception because of the constraints the Venue has put in place on the Maximum number of people allowed to attend the Reception.
Another aspect in the number of Guests is the cost involved. A lot of venues have a set price for the meal for your guests then add in a “Drinks Package” for a certain number of Hours. So obviously the more guests, the more meal and Drinks will need to be supplied.
Family v Friends is another issue. Do you invite Family members that you haven’t seen in years? or do you skip them and invite your friends that you see on a regular basis. Traditionally Family is invited over Friends because of the whole Relations aspect. If you don’t invite that Uncle you haven’t seen since you were 12 they might be forever upset that you didn’t. Or Grandma/Grandad might be upset that you didn’t invite Aunty so-n-so… Friends on the other hand would probably understand if they didn’t get an invite to your special day because of the Family invites.
Lately i have noticed that there is a swing towards inviting the people that your see on a regular basis, the people that make you happy. Friends are becoming more and more popular as the main invites to the weddings.
So just some things to think about before sending out your invites for your big day. How many people can the Reception venue cater for? How much is it per/head for the meal and Drinks Package? And who do you really want at your wedding???

Locations to shoot Wedding Photos on the Sunshine Coast – Maleny

Hi guys, Mark Brittain here once again for Creative Elegance. Today i wanted to chat about the different locations to take your Formal Photos for a wedding at Maleny. I have shot plenty of weddings here and also had the privilege of shooting a Maternity and a Wedding Fashion shoot as well. So without further a due, below are some locations to shoot your wedding photos at the Sunshine Coast’s beautiful Maleny!!!

One Tree Hill — Ok, 1st off is the most talked about and one of the Sunshine Coast’s, scratch that Australia’s famous locations. One Tree Hill,
For those of you who have never heard of this place, well, you’re missing out!! Basically it is a hill on the side of a mountain overlooking the Glass House Mountains. IT IS GORGEOUS!!! To use this location you must make a donation to the owner of the land who lives next door. Once made the spot is yours for the time to do your shoot. I have shot weddings with people who live thousands of kilometres away just so they could use this location and have the photos they desire hanging on their living room wall. In short, it is spectacular.
Agapanthus Lane — Agapanthus Lane is a few Km down the Rd from One Tree Hill. It is nicely tucked away and once again the owner must be contacted before using the spot. It is a beautiful little hidden bundle of awesome waiting to be used for your wedding photos!!

Mary Cairnscross Park — Mary Cairnscross Park is along the same Rd as the other two previous mentioned locations. It is at the start of the Rd and has a massive area for creative photos. There are amenities here as well. Plenty of car parks. The view is breath taking, with a 180deg of the stunning Glasshouse Mountains.

That’s all for now, hope i have helped out with a few different public locations to have your Formal Wedding Photos taken in Maleny.

Brisbane wedding photographer – How many people should I have in my Bridal Party??

Hey guys just thought I would share this with you all. I was asked the other day “How many people should i have in my Bridal Party??” Now there is no “SET” number for this at all. For all the weddings I have shot the usual is 8 including the Bride & Groom. But I have shot some with 14 including the B & G, and others with no bridal party at all!!

There are many things to way up when deciding how many and who you will have in your Bridal Party. Cost is a factor, the price of the clothing you Bridal Party will wear. Will your Bridal Party buy their own clothes or are the B & G paying for it? Or are you Hiring the suits and dresses?? The cost of meals is another one, the bigger the Bridal Party the more expensive the Reception will be. Then you have the Hair & Makeup for the Brides maids. And transport, if you have a large Bridal Party, will you supply the drive cars to get them to the wedding? Or are you thinking a Limo will cover all of you???

Another point will be personalities. Does everyone get along? are any of the Bridal party matched up with their partners? Or Ex’s??? With the Bigger Bridal Parties there is more chance of someone not getting along with someone. Someone having an Ex that might still have issues. Someone matched with someone they don’t like. Yes the day is about the B & G but in the end you have to spend 18hrs with the people around you. If everyone gets along it would be a great advantage!!

Lastly I know from experience that the bigger the Bridal Party the more peoples’ attention I need to have to make the photos look amazing. The more different personalities i must get along with. I large Bridal Party is more difficult to work with, but if done right, the photos would look beautiful. I tend to have to Bridal Party involved for 75% of the time allowed for the Formal Shots. The last 25% will just be the B & G, some nice, close, intimate shots of them on their wedding day. By that time anyway the Bridal Party just wants to sit down and have a couple of drinks!!

Who would have thought something so little, like the number of People in the Bridal Party would have such an effect on the day’s events?
